Taiping, once the old capital of Perak, began as alluvial mining area more than 150 years. Formerly known as Klian Pauh, it is renamed to Taiping, a Chinese word Tai-Peng which means ETERNAL PEACE.
This "town of everlasting peace" was the first tin-mining town in the country, the first major town developed by the British, and the first official administrative center of Perak and the Malay States.
