Kuching > The Waterfront
This is the place where the English adventurer James Brooke first landed. It was once a small settlement with a few attap buildings, but was later transformed to a busy port with warehouses and wharves. Now, by strolling along this transformed riverside walk, you can discover a landmarks that the rich cultural and intriguing history of Kuching. Along the river are historical heritage like Sarawak Steamship Building and Square Tower. Opposite the river are The Astana (the palace) and Fort Margherita. You can take a sampan to cross the river to take a closer look at the palace sitting in the middle of a Malay village and the castle-like fort sitting proudly on a small hill.
