Perak
Perak, known as the "Land of Tin", has its name derived from the silvery tin ore that has made the state famous. Situated along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia between the states of Penang and Kedah in the north and Selangor in the South, its major town include Ipoh, the administrative centre and state capital; Kuala Kangsar, the Royal Town; Taiping, the former state capital; Lumut, the main seaport and Teluk Intan, famed for its leaning clocktower. History The history of Perak dates to around 1528 when the present sultanate began under Sultan Muzzafar Shah, the eldest son of the last Sultan of Malacca. The discovery of tin has brought foreign threats to the state. In the 16th century, Perak was first ravaged by the Archinese followed by the dutch in 1641. In the 18th century, Perak faced a double dilemma with Siamese in the North and Bugis in the South, leading to the British intervention in the state. The growing importance of tin led to an influx of Chinese miners to Perak. With its rich cultures and history background, Perak is indeed an interesting tourist venues to sightsee and explore. Perak boasts a diversity of attractions to suit a wide range of travellers. Ipoh, the capital of Perak, is a picturesque city of the past and present. Grand buildings once occupied by the city's founders are a reminder of Ipoh's early days. Taiping comes from the Chinese word Tai-Peng which means ETERNAL PEACE. It was the first tin-mining town in the country where many historif 'firsts' arouse. As 'The Pioneering Site of Historic Landmarks', it is now popular for its expansive heritage landmarks and attractions like The Taiping Prison, the first prison in Malaysia, Perak Museum, Malaysia's oldest museum. Besides, it is a tranquil and beautiful town with a lot of natural reserve like Taiping Lake Gardens, Malaysia's first botanical wonderland, Matang Mangrove Forest, one of the world's best managed swamp and The Taiping Zoo, the first zoo in Malaysia. It s also one of the venues for sailing regattas and the hop-over point from the mainland to Pangkor Island. It popular beaches include Teluk Batik, Teluk Rubiah and Pantai Pasir Panjang. Pangkor Island is the largest of a group of nine islands across the Manjung Straits opposite Lumut. The most popular beaches here are Pasir Bogak and Teluk Nipah.
