Masjid Jamek, the oldest mosques in Kuala Lumpur, is located st the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers where the founders of the city first set foot. The mosque was designed by AB Hubback, with cupolas and minarets top the brick walls and arched colonnades, from the inspiration of Mogul mosques in northern India. It was officially opened by the Sultan of Selangor 2 years after completion. It remained as the city's principal mosque until the opening of the National Mosque in 1965.
