What are the reasons to visit?

A place to explore Malaysia culture and pick up souvenirs for your friends.

The Art Deco style Central Market, built in 1928, was designed by architect and engineer TY Lee. It has won the Coronation Architecture Design Award in 1953. It was Kuala Lumpur's former largest wholesale and retail wet market for fresh produce.

Being the first example of a heritage building being adapted for a different use, it is transformed into a leading craft centre in the city. It was renovated and reopened in 1986 as a centre for the display and development of Malaysian culture, arts and crafts. It is the home of many handicraft and artwork activities like batik painting, fortune telling, shadow puppet plays, glass blowing, dance classes, art classes, etc. Cultural performances are also regularly hosted here.

GETTING THERE:

Central Market is across from the Klang River, opposite the Dayabumi Complex, on the fringe of KL’s Chinatown.

It is 10-minute walk from the Masjid Jamek Station accessible via the STAR and Putra LRT services..
